Tranny speed sensor

The master of speaking without saying anything.
I was wondering if anyone knew if a malfunctioning speed sensor on the auto tranny will cause it to shift improperly. I checked some codes for the abs and it said that all three speed sensors were not giving a signal. Sometimes the tranny works great other times it feels like I'm driving a stick trying to take off from a higher gear. I do have a friend who said he will give me his old tranny but if I can just replace a sensor i'd rather not go through and pull the entire thing.

guy i knew blew a fuse that controlled the shifting of the trans and it would start in 3rd and would throw a code for speed sensors

I can't tell you exactly what it was, but I know there was one main fuse that the transmission was wired under......it's wasn't labelled "TRANSMISSION" or anything....but run through your fuses and make sure thats not it.

Make sure the selector is in the correct position on the trans itself. If the nut comes loose, it can be difficult.

Yes, diagnose the speed sensors, as they will change the shift points.

I don't believe the ABS speed sensors will effect transmission shifting. There is a speed sensor behind the speedometer, too. My Mitchell-On-Demand program says the one on the trans is for ABS.

Nick, I did adjust the selector according to what I saw in the tsrm the last time I had the car apart and still no change.

I am guessing the codes you got were 62,63,64 right????
I thought so!

You have 2 speed sensors and 2 shift solenoids (actually your 2nd speed sensor is a solenoid also). The first speed sensor is in the instrument cluster by the odometer. If this bad boy malfunctions youll pull all three of those codes I mentioned earlier. If this is the case speed sensor one has shorted or burned out. See dealer...get a new one.

Another posibility is a broken speedo cable. Since it (the cable) supplies the info to the speed sensor in the instrument cluster all hell breaks loose when you lose a speedo cable and it will show error codes 62,63 and 64.
