hey guys i remember reading a thread about cleanin the tranny, and i believe it was mdc, who has a little formula he would put in his tranny and then run it in the tranny, and when it was warm he would pull the plug and this concoction would really take all the crap that was in there out. :biglaugh: sorry if this sounds weird. who know what that mixture was?

lol sorry, it was a micture of 2:1 atf,

Make a solution of 2:1 of atf:kerosene

Make about 4 quarts of it.

Put the car up on jack stands, drain the trans fluid. Fill with solution.

Start car up on the jack stands, and put into gear. STAY WITH THE CAR. Let the car run in gear (3rd or 4th) for about 20-30 minutes: enough to get some temp in the trans.

Do not drive the car, as the solution doesn't provide any shock or pressure wear protection.

After the 30 minutes is up. Drain the trans while still warm.

YOU'LL BE SHOCKED WHAT COMES OUT.

Let drain for about an hour as it will dribble forever.

Put back in the plug and refill with 85w90 GL5 or better.

If all that doesn't help, sounds to me like its time for a rebuild.

this is mdc's concotion. im gonna try it out.

ATF has TONS of detergents in it... also good for freeing up siezed bolts.

OH, and yes Redline makes very good transmission fluids... perfect for refilling the tranny with after the flush.

yeah atf = atomatic transmission fluid. the kerosene if for cleaning out all the shit, and the atf like said above has detergents for cleaning, plus it will give the tranny some lubrication.

Yes, lubrication. And did you know that back in the early '80s Toyota (and probably some others) started using Dexron II in their manual trannys on front wheel drive cars ??

Better MPG, and shifting.

Also, Dexron III (what you get today) is a very safe and good engine block cleaner. Just put a qt into your oil before you change the oil & filter. Run the engine for at least 15 minutes, and up to a few miles.

You don't need to do this but once a year, as the good motor oil we all use has lots of detergents in it.

It will clean out a lot of crap, but not every little bit. You don't want to clean out every bit, like with some of those strong block cleaners (unless you are fixing to rebuild the engine and want it super clean).

You don't want to remove all of the varnish that has built up in the bearings and such, because you will open up the clearances, and can actually cause rod knocks, and rings that will let oil into the combustion chambers, and smoking, etc.
