Ok all, I need yalls Imput before I go any further. I have a bare Block here (Block and Pistons) that I pulled from a JDM 58,000 Mile turbo supra and Im planning on Putting it into my car since Im having Seaping HG issues. Now the Pistons are in very very good Condition and the Side Skirts have almost no Scaring at all.

Called toyota and asked about Stock Piston rings.. Answer $293.00 a set. Im like WTF, you got to be Kidding me. The rings on the Pistons now are in great condition and I thought about just Honing out the Cylinders and reusing them since they are Original Toyota Rings and not alot of miles. I see that the #1 and #2 Ring is Chrome Versus all the other ring sets that I have bought only come with #1 ring being chrome

What the Hell Difference is toyota Rings versus All the other rings out there? Are toyota rings that good or are they just overpriced like everything else? Can I still use the rings that are on the Pistons since it only has 68,000 miles and looks to be unhurt at all. Ive Bought NPR rings before but I havent had any luck with those type rings and they are only $48.00 Shipped.

Do not use your original rings no matter how good they look. Matter of fact, just because it might be a low mileage motor, do not assume anything is within spec. Get everything measured out, either by you or a professional. I purchased my Toyota rings and bearings (I don't know who supplies them for toyota) from Elmhorst toyota, from Curt. The price on the rings was 154.00 and the bearings were about 10 bucks each for rods and mains. I just felt better with factory stuff, so the price to me was worth it. The rings fit perfect and even the end gap was well within spec. I chose the bearings as per the number system and even those measured up well into stock specs, using mikes and plastigage as a backup. Please don't take shortcuts or you will be pulling the motor out again.

well most after market ring companies coat their rings with a layer of moly for wear resistance and hence why they would not be chrome. but after use it will wear of and both rings will be chrome from wear

toyota rings are good rings but you may get a much better price from like champion toyota with their forum discount. remember dealers parts are generally high quality but they also make alot of money on their parts.

you would be fine grabbing some local sourced rings
federal mogul, mahle rings, most oem rings will do the job.

Thanks for the Imput guys, I think Im going to go with my Original plan and Drop my ROSS Standard bore Pistons in. I didnt want to end up boring this block out or anything so I though about just using the Stock Pistons. I guess I will throw these Stock Pistons in the For Sale Area since Im not going to use them and Im sure someone can get some use of of them as Im not.
