Toyota of N. America forces Toyo-DIY to remove parts diagrams.
This should be especially disturbing to people doing JDM engine swaps.
I guess, if you don't want a truck, or unless your into NazKar,
you don't count..........

The diagrams are no longer available on this site. For reasons that are beyond our comprehension, Toyota of North America kept harrassing our ISP about them. It seems that they are really interested in quick profits from new car sales, so it is in their best interest that old cars fall apart asap. The progress of course cannot be stopped, and the diagrams are available on numerous other websites around the world, so we feel this change will not have a significant negative impact on Toyota DIY-ers. For example google something like 78-01 ACCELERATOR LINK 78111C, and you shall find it. Contact us if you need help or have any other question on this subject. "

Well

technically Toyota is still the copyright holder of the material in question. Old or not.

Anyway. all this information is still retrievable from most public libraries through thier mostreous search databases. That is where I pulled the electrical schematics from the 2006 Chevrolet Corvette Z06.

Absolutely correct. And herein lies present problem, that is, the possibly intentional inconsideration for just about anything copyrighted, and other proprietary information. Seemingly it's now okay to operate with almost impunity in copying, duplicating, "knocking off" other groups originality without any expectation of penalty. What just happened to Toyo-DIY is the huge resource hand of Toyota called their copyright legal department reaching out and putting a stop to some other group using their proprietary info' for enterprising purposes.

Sorry, I now move away from my soap box. As a seasoned professional mechanical engineer, this knocking off crap is truly irritating.

As a customer, an end user, how do you suggest these parts be found? Most counter-salesmen dont know how to search the diagrams as well as I seem to be able to. If I wanted to order a part from champion, or any other local dealer without cygnus, it would be a very painful process.

I don't care if Toyota gets the credit for the search. I would rather they get the credit, BUT THEY DONT PROVIDE THIS INFO TO THE PUBLIC.

And it's not because they have something to hide, it's because they dont want to spend the time and money on it. Instead, they will pay a legal team to make sure that nobody else can provide helpful info.

What does Toyo-DIY gain? What is Toyota losing?

This is dumb. If I lose the cygnus EPC I will go insane...

Hmm, didnt know about that site, shame though.

Ford did somthing similar to a Ranger forum, told the forum that since it had the word "Ranger" in the url, they had to shut it down. Havent heard any more on it, so I don't know what came of it.

It's not only Toyota that wants sales with their new cars, it's the same with Honda's too. It's sad the imports does not want their classics to last like the American Classics. Parts are getting hard to get as the year keeps on. I can understand their business point of view, but for car enthusiast it's something hard to accept.

on the other hand, this resource makes it extremely easy for joe public to obtain factory toyota parts extremely easily, translating to less work for parts counter staff thus higher productivity. It is a double edged sword no doubt.

Sounds more like they're pulling a Ford to be honest... I can count on one hand how many decent parts counter guys I know, and that's pretty damn sad...

btw

what this also means is if they are starting out doing that.... expect the TSRM to go offline also as toyota will probably be sending cease and decist letters to other sites too.
