Ok guys, I have a 90 Supra Turbo auto and back in 03 I bought wheels and a set of toyo proxe FZ-4 tires with them. Stock suspension at that time, about 6 months later one front and one rear tire seperated in large chunks. The store I got them from gave me some line about pressure, wel they were up to pressure but I figured ok maybe one got low and I didn't notice, so every week I checked the pressure on all 4, none ever lost any pressure and low and behold 9 months later, another did the same thing.
The first time the 2 seperated I was given 4 "new" replacements for 80 dollar mounting and shipping fee. This time they replaced the one bad tire and charged me full price, this time claiming it was driven hard on. During this time the car was driven about 2000 miles total in the 9 months, only on weekends and only below 70mph, they werent raced on and they werent burnt off or anything else, just standard driving with the occasional boost here and there.
Well things went well for a while and I bought Eibach lowering springs, tokico illumina 2 struts, powerslot rotors, sway bars and a few other goodies and things continued to go well it seemed. I kept the tires inflated properly and I had them rotated and balanced every 4,000 miles per the tire shops spec. Then bam, the two fronts seperate on the interstate one day on my 20 mile commute to work when I was dispatching for another county sheriff's office, I dropped the car off at a tire place in town where I worked and demanded a better quality tire, I ended up getting 2 bridgestone Potenza's mounted up front, along with a new alignment. I realize a lowered car is going to wear tires on the inside but I knew something sucked with Toyo for some reason and from the shop I had been dealing with.
Last night, I had my right rear go flat, upon changing it to my full size spare to head home I found that the crappy toyo rears had seperated although they weren't apparently worn much inside. So to hell with it right, I went this morning and ordered two more potenzas for the rear.
I've noticed the potenza although the same size as the toyo is noticeably meatier and a lil taller, they also have not worn anywhere near as badly as these toyo's. Ive always heard toyo's were good tires but even new they didn't grip all that well and they seem to be seriously flawed and possibly dangerous, it could be these are old or retreaded by this shop that I no longer go to, but I am wondering has anyone else dealt with this????? especially from toyo's?????
I am no longerb uying toyo's from anyone I am going to stick with the potenza's and see how they go.
