do you guys ALWAYS follow torque specs?? obviously for the motor internals yea but i'm talking wheel lug nuts, suspension pieces, drivetrain pieces......stuff like that. I usually just tighten it to feel rather then torquing it. Just want to see if eveyone else there is like me.

yes it is that important. shure if you have alot of expiriance you could judge torque by feel with some accracy. but the only way to be shure is with a torque wrench. i would rather know that my car isnt going to start shedding parts going down the road.

Always use a torque wrench for anything that specifies a torque value.
It's a small step in the here and now, but it's a large step when said item to be torqued falls off.

I like that "It's a small step in the here and now, but it's a large step when said item to be torqued falls off":biglaugh:

i guess idealy you want to use a torque wrench. I barely ever use one. Only on the head and stuff that will either strip or is crucial (ie head bolts). I dont really have access to a torque wrench that will do a crank pulley. Or will fit inside the wheel wells for the brakes/suspension. So whatever, I just do what I gotta do.

PS pipes as breaker bars are the key to success.

It all depends on what I'm working on. If I'm tightening things that won't matter if they're 10% off on torque I usually don't go through the hassle. I work in a garage and we have to torque wheels in the air with torque sticks and an airgun, then hand torque them once the car's lowered, then ideally supposed to move the car and do it again... Usually tighting up the bolts and doing it once on the ground is enough.

But anything engine/brakes/suspension that requires a specific torque, I'd say it's important. It will give you an extra sense of security.
