I was cleaning up my sp57 turbo i bought from a member a while ago getting it ready to go on my car when i noticed it had alot of side to side shaft play that i hadn't noticed before, and decided to take it apart to see whats up. I already e-mail SP to see if they sell a rebuild kit. Here are the pics let me know what you think.

wow....

you know there is very little chance a normal person can successfully rebuild a turbo at their home correct, that there are certain markings you need to make when disassembling a turbo to correctly line it up when its rebuilt for proper balancing, and the rotating assembly needs to be measured and rebalanced so it doesn't eat itself up, did you?

I can tell you what SP will say, send it off to a reputable turbo rebuilder and get some KY... you are gonna need it!

I marked the position of the housings when i took them off. As to the internals they only go on one way and i was very meticulous when taking them off as to where they go. And i'm not changing out any wheels only the seals and bearings so i don't think it needs to be balanced.

Find a shop that does this, and does it well.

we cant run a micrometer on a picture so they are pretty much useless to us.

Best advice call the shop and ask them what to do from this point, trying to reassemble it at this point may put you in a deeper hole. Good luck and dont expect any sympathy from whoever sold you this when the turbo explodes after 20 seconds.

I wish you luck man, humpty dumpty here is going to need every bit it can get.

You sir, are a brave man.

I would assume someone who'd rip into a turbo would know what they're doing though. So I will await the arrival of those wiser than I (though that's not hard to do), and perhaps learn something from these pictures, lol.
