Finnally got the balls up to go for a real drive since I got the 1j swap done in. The bimmer.. decided to head east over the mountains.. 560 miles later I was home drove perfect loved the higher altitude twistys.. I had put about 2000 miles on round town and here or their.. but was affraid to go to far from where I have trailer near bye.. can not belive how well this car runs with a 1j in it. And its a hwy beast.. oh and I got 23.3 mpg doing nearly 80mph the whole time and climbing blewit pass at 115 a few times.

They are good engines for highway cruising, especially with stock turbos. Never have to pull out of 5th gear to pass, I love it. Just put ~500 miles on mine this past weekend. :)

I believe you had another thread with pics of the swap, did you not?

Yes I did ill put some up once I get to my ecu.. and I have a big single ditched the twins. This is my 1st turbod car and I love how they do at altitude.. normally going over passes cars are guttless but with the turbo u hardly notice the hills

Welcome! I'm glad you're enjoying it.

I've managed up to 29mpg at around 70-75mph with the 1J/3.91 combo (temps below 80).. I'll agree with them being great highway cars.
