too much valve noise

I have about 2k miles on my car after a BHG. I had the head reworked (surfaced, new seals, 3 angle valve job, ect) before reassembly & everything was great afterwards. Now I'm starting to get a lot of valve noise. A loud tick to be precise. What took so long for the noise to start & how do I get rid of it? I didn't think 7MGTE's had adjustable valves, correct?

I didn't, but the machinist is a good friend that I trust. I trust him more than I do myself, but it sounds like I need to check them myself. Any info / pointers?

It's always good to have a machinist you know and trust. It's not a bad idea to check things yourself though. It's really easy to check the cam to shim clearance. Just follow the tsrm. :D

It sounds like your clearances MAY have changed since the head work. As the valves seat into the head after a fresh cut, you can lose some of the cam to shim clearance and get some noise from that.

wut about performance. how would this affect driving. i know it wouldnt be allot but would it just be an uneven throttle response?

You probably wouldn't be able to notice unless valves were kept from closing all the way. That would be very noticeable. Ever driven a beetle with tight rockers? :thumbsdow
