I was just wondering who would rather pull the motor and trans opposed to pulling just the trans when doin clutch work. I just got my mk3 t and started the tear down to fix some clutch problems. When you push the pedal the fork sounds like it is grinding on something and it starts to bog the motor. I was hoping that they put the throwout bearing in backwards. Anything else it could be?

pull them both out and replace whats needed or looks like it needs replacing. use this as a chance to learn more and to fix more.
if your only dealing with the clutch then just pull the trans. however if you have the extra time/funds to chase after other things than pull them both. yes the bellhousing bolts suck ass but you can get to them, theres a good write up in the referance section, "clutch replacement in 20 steps" or something like that.
