which matters more?

i need new tires, and i was wondering about stepping up to a 245/50-16 on the sawblades.

i'd like to get some more kumho ecsta SPTs but they're only available in 225/50-16.

the yokohama avs es100 is available in the bigger size. however, tire rack's tests make it look like the ecstas perform better.

which will outperform? will they follow tire rack's test results closely or will the extra width of the es100 give it an edge over the SPT?

i imagine more width = a little more grip. of course, the sidewall will bulge a little more

its all about the compound. also a 225 khumo isnt the same as a 225 falken. for saw blades and street tires i would not go over 225. the decrease in cornering stiffness could decrease the grip of the tires especially in a non racing tire. the spts should be fine in a 225 no need for a 245.

In general; wider tires will allow more corning grip, larger diameter tires will increase forward grip.
As pointed out, just because one tire is rated at 245 it will not be exactly the same size as another 245 tire. Azenis tend to be a lot fatter than other tires that are labeled as the 'same' size.
The compound of the tire is also very important. Thinner race tires will always do better than cheap wider tires with 400 wear rating.
If you go too wide on the stock rims, you'll actually decrease performance because the tire sidewalls will be bulging out from the rim.

I've got my RE760's at 33.5psi right in the middle. I've been told for top speed runs bump the cold pressure up to 35psi.

firstly never EVER talk cold pressures for racing applications. hot pressure is what you care about not cold. also i can recommend pressures for most high performance summer tires just let me know which brand you will be running.

the star specs are good a little slow to heat up but they are fairly stable over long runs and wont get greasy as bad as azenis will

thanks for the tip but i won't be doing any racing in this car.

i will, however, get the kumho ecsta spts in stock size. pressure for these?
