How well will a 225-50-16 fit on a 9in. rim?
Ok I have some MKIV NA wheels and the rear tires I bought them with are bald and I got rid of em. Also the rear tires on my Saws are close to bald. So I have 2 pairs of 225-50-16 tires.(the fronts on my saws and the fronts from the MKIV wheels) The MKIV wheels had Michelin Pilot Sports on them and my Saws have Yoko avid v4s. I dont want to throw away the pilots or th yokos cause they are both good tires. Thanks.

Yea I was thinking if they would fit it would be a stretch. Now which tires should I put on the fronts? I'm thinking of putting the Pilots on the front for the summer and then having the yokos for the winter. I will be getting Yokohama Avid v4s 255-50-16 for the rears. :D

But he wants 225 wide on a 9" rim
your case is 255 wide on a 8.5" rim

I know that 245 is stock to one 8" rim I know of. You seem to be right where you should be anyways.

aye mate,
I will take a stab at it and say with that low a sidewall, 20mm maybe the max you can change. Like I said, "a stab" (a guess).
or fellow members can state the biggest variations that they have had from what the rims call for.

check out the avon tires. They have really good rating and at a decent price. I wanted those but discount didn't carry them so I went with kuhmo asx alll season 285 40 17 in the back.

Yes stock tires on a MKIV NA were 225-50-16 up front (8in. rim) and 245-50-16 on the 9in. rear rims. So I have 2 sets of fronts and no rears. I think 255's will fit on the rears just fine seeing as how a 245 is stock. I will check out the Avon tires, even tho' I am pretty much sold on the Yoko's ;) Thanks everyone for helping my confirm my suspicions(*sp*).

aye mate,
I was in the library today & I seen this magazine.
On the cover was a red & white Ford GT40 & a yellow Ferrari F430 F1.
Anyways, the rim & tire combo on the front of the Ford GT40 was a surprising 235-45-18 on a 18x9 wheel!
Now I can't say for sure that all tires are created the same; maybe this was made specially to be narrow on a relatively wide rim.

But there is one case of a 235 on a 9" wide rim STOCK.
Who knows, it may just work out that a 225 will go on a 9" rim.

PS it was either Road & Track or Car & Driver. I will add that bit of info for you tomorrow in this post & just edit & add it in here.
