Ok, I broke a lug stud the other day. I have taken the hub off and am trying to get that wonderful 36mm nut off the back. It won't break. Just to make sure, it didn't look like it is reverse threaded. Ideas? I'm about to the point of taking it to a shop. Just hate to do that because I've done all the work on this car so far!

thanx for your time!

I assume you are talking about the axle nut.
You should be able to get it with a long enough breaker bar :). One thing to make it easier is to put a jack with a block of wood under the socket when you get your breaker bar on it, that way when you go to push down on the bar there's less chance of the socket slipping off and messing up the nut/your face when you fall into the floor.

If it is REALLY stubborn, you can set the parking brake and rest the breaker bar against the floor, then slowly let the jack down and let the vehicles weight break the nut loose.

Spray it with penetrating oil and let it soak for a while before hand!

The nut is standard threads on both sides

what is did was...i had an extra long strut bar laying around so i had the wheel off and i jacked it up and supported with jack stands (obviously) and i put the bar inbetween the studs while the tip was touching the ground, so when i used the breaker bar the hub wont spin.

use this technique, its quite effective...lol

I couldn't get the cv joint nut off on my civic. It broke my damn breaker bar. I bought a compressor and impact gun and had it off in two seconds.

Just got to be careful and have the right power setting.

As long as you push the little tab out before hitting it with the impact you wont strip anything.

I come from a land down under
Breaker bar and a cheater pipe extension..

Don't like rattle guns fullstop due to the way they hammer at the part, over the years I've seen lots of failures shortly after someone rattling a part off then reinstalling it, can't be coincidence.

Thanks guys! At least now I know I'm not on crack. Had 2 ppl with a breaker bar and pipe extender and it was bending the bar! Penetrating oil it is and more torque.
