Well I have a 1jz on an engine stand and my impact gun isnt getting the crank bolt off. I tried to put two bolts in the flywheel bolt holes , and wedge a prybar between them , but I sheared a bolt off :(. Any ideas?

Did you put a torch on the head of the crank pulley bolt? I know you dont want to get it too hot but it might help. I think most of the friction you are getting is from the washer-like face of the bolt. Maybe the heat will help break it up.

Temp install the starter and flexplate/flywheel and manually jump it?

put the transmission & driveshaft back in, put it in 5th, pull the ebrake, and then it should come off. also use a crapload of penetrating oil, and if that still doesn't work, then like p5150 said, try heating up the bolt head a little bit.

ooh, i can add input here. if you dont mind taking off the pan, what i did literally yesterday was have a big thick rag that i put in the engine right where the connecting rod turned. i would turn the pulley by hand then it would basically lock up and wouldn't move anymore. then i used a 1 foot breaker bar with like a 5 foot pole and it broke loose easily.

I welded a few pieces of steel plate to an old automatic trans flex plate with holes that line up with two of the bellhousing bolts. Makes taking off flywheels a lot less dramatic experience. :biglaugh:
If you only have a 7m flex plate, just drill a few of the holes in it to match the 1jz crank bolt pattern

on mine, i had the pan off, i stuck a 3/8" drive extension in one fo the crank's holes that was drilled to balance it, and then used that touching up against the block plus a 2 foot breaker bar and a sledgehammer to break it.

what a bitch.

if it was in the car, put a breaker bar on the pulley, and start the bitch. it will slam the breaker bar up against the subframe and take it right off. tanya gave me that idea :)

a torch is probably your best bet.

also, you can mount your flywheel or flexplate with 2 bolts, mount the starter, and put a breaker bar on the crank pulley bolt and wedge the breaker bar against the PS pump or some other accessory, as long as it's sturdy. make sure the starter has the + battery cable attached to it. now get a battery, put the + battery cable on it, and get some scrap wire and one of those crimp terminals and connect it to the starter terminal. touch the scrap wire to the positive post of the battery to spin the starter.

I have found that method to be very handy when i don't have access to a torch or power tools. just make sure the engine on something secure and not suspended high in the air. also, i always put some oil in the pan just to be safe.

Try a large breaker bar or a broken torque wrench in my case. :) Sometimes if you tighten it a little more with an impact gun, then reverse it, it may break free. If the engines out of the car, jam the flywheel with a 3/8" ratchet or a large screwdriver. Any of those have always worked for me. Hope it works out!

that has happened to me before. I ended up using a chain wrench to hold the crank pulley and a breaker bar with a huge pipe over it to crack it loose. You have to be carefull with the chain wrench because it is easy to damage the crank pulley ribs.

take off the flywheel and screw the bolt back into the crank while turning it until it hits the block and locks the crank?
