I'm being hooked up with a Digital Slim Ballast HID kit from a good friend of mine.

8000K HID's w/ hi & low beam.

Apparently it's a plug & play kit but I'd like to know if there's anything I should know about before I install them?

Don't.

Seriously, if you're planning to install them in halogen housings, just don't. Do a proper HID retrofit using OEM projectors from another vehicle. (FX35 bixenons are nice) You can source replicas with great mounting points cast on them stock from www.theretrofitsource.com

Proper projector retrofit > all.

Is the cut off really that bad? I've got the OEM JDM housings so the pattern on the front of the glass is very similar to Ecode housings and is very clear.

It seems like there is an HID thread every day. DON'T DO IT. Not only that, but 8000k is ricer and retarded. It will have horrible output and be way too blue.

Do it, but do it properly and it will look fine even with 8000k if you so choose.

8000K is actually pretty nice, it's not too blue and it's not too white. It reminds me of new Mercedes and BMW's. I'm still contemplating it, I may just pick up the PIAA Spark 8000K H4 bulbs to save myself the hassle of hacking up my lights to fit in projectors.

Yes, it is really that bad. JDM housings are actually worse, as they are designed to be the opposite of North American lights, with an upsweep to the cutoff on the left, not the right, making for a really nice method of blinding all oncoming traffic.

No... it isn't anything like mercedes and BMW. You know why? Because all of them are running 4300K. Which is the brightest output you're going to get. The color you're seeing is from the projector. Do it right and you'll have the look and performance that you want. 8000K in a random h4 housing or even a nicer one is just going to be horrible.

Check out Daniel Stern and do a proper headlight rewire as stated on his site. Buy some good Osram bulbs. (not Sylvania, they're different. ;)) You will be amazed what even the stock sealed beams are capable of. If you want to drop another couple dollars, get some E-codes and couple that with good bulbs and the headlight rewire. The output will blow away any PnP HID kit you slap in H4 housings.

And don't get 8k. :nono: If you're going for looks + output, no higher than 6k. If you want the best light, no higher than 5k, no lower than 4300.

Well I've already got the housings, the EDM & JDM housings aren't sealed beam and come OEM with an H4 bulb. Also the JDM ones & the Ecode ones share pretty much the exact same glass pattern with the exception of the directional flow being the other way (more to the right instead of the left)

I'll go check out the site and the rewire to get some idea's, I honestly thought the bulb output decided the colour of the beam, not the projectors so thanks for that piece of info. Now that I know, I will most likely just get some 6000K PIAA / Hella H4's and do a rewire once I find out what's involved. Thanks for the advice guys.
