Timing Belt Problem Please Help

I recently finished putting my head back on and finally got a chance to start it today however I've got two weird problems. First I hear this ticking noise coming from inside the valve covers. Second when my father revs the motor it wants to die right after that.

I already checked for codes and got none for the engine everything was OK. Timing was put at 10' BTDC followed the TSRM. The only thing I can think of it that my dad messed up putting my timing belt because you can see it move across the gears very slightly and when he revs the motor you hear this loud pitched squeel. Im new to working on cars so go easy on me.

Thanks

Shouldnt hear any noises from timing belt area. Need to find the source of the squeal before it puts you down where you dont want to be.

Dying right after throttle up is usually indicative of AFM disconnected or air/boost leak.

No boost leak I've detected
Squeel is coming from idler pully from what I can tell my dad did a piss poor job putting it on that's why I said its moving along the cam gear slightly but that squeel sounds like its coming from idler pulley. Vacuum on boost guage is reading
-20mmHg. I can't tell if the ticking noise is valve tick, or the fuel injectors. I took care of all the boost leaks I had prior to pulling the head. Would a badly installed timing belt cause the car to die? It'll idle on it own no problem but it dies after my dad revs the motor....well start to die sometimes it'll recover itself sometimes it won't.

Thanks

You have a boost leak...or your vacuum is routed wrong somewhere. Put some pics up of the engine bay. I would definately fix that timing belt though before driving.

Ok so idle problem was fixed the timing was off 5 degrees, all vacuum lines checked during the process. Ok so is there an easier way to tension the belt? My dad and I tried this morning and it still moves in and out while giving out this weird noise like one of those whine up radios.

Any help with todays problem?

Thanks

I don't know what you mean by easier but you don't want to put to much tension on the belt.

I might check the crank sprocket.

By crank sprocket im assuming your talking about the crank area of the belt, never removed the timing belt, just did a head swap. It didn't do this before I pulled my old head but now it is.

Might try replacing the tensioner? From what I understand they're a wear item.

I see please forgive this stupid sounding question im about to ask. On Autozones website they have a timing belt pulley, and then timing belt tensioner spring.

Are you talking about the pulley? Or the spring?

Sorry for sounding like a moron as I said im new to this.

Thanks

I come from a land down under
Fit a new tensioner and spring.

The belt tension is set by the spring alone the procedure is detailed in the TRSM.

Word of warning do NOT exceed 36 ft/lbs for the tensioner bolt, if you do you will deform #1 cylinder and cause blowby.

If you didn't remove the belt and it wasn't put on quite right, it will pop the guides off the lower pulley...

You'd probably hear grinding though...
