^^^ Absolutely! Do it once and you're set for as long as you own the car! This definitely needs to be added to the list of contenders for "Mod of the Year".

It was running fine until I removed the leaking distributor and installed the rebuilt dist.
I tried several times to get it started but it ran rough. I just wanted to remove the cover to see if the timing belt is still in time.

it's probably from your distributor not being on the right tooth. I'm kind of cloudy on how to fix the problem but I know it has something to removing it and turning the rotor and trying again. Also check your ignition wire firing order. You may have mixed it up on accident.

Have you put a timing light on it? Like yota said it could be off a tooth. A timing light would tell you.

I removed the cover by removing the thermostat cover.
To me it looks like the middle bolt that is hanging up. Its the bolt that doesn't come out when you loosen it.
Anyone remove it and replace it with something else, can it be removed without removing the thermostat cover?
Any reason that bolt is not removable, can I remove it and replace it with a regular bolt?

Fixing your girl's car
I just removed mine a couple days ago just to check it out since I replaced my timing belt, so I know the stud/nut you are referring to. I don't think it is removable without breaking the cover. And it was as clean as the day I replaced the cam seals and timing belt in there, over a year ago.

And to anyone who runs no timing belt cover, you have balls, or no brain, or both!!.

Also make sure it's not off 180 degrees. I made this mistake a long time ago and confused the hell out of myself cause it ran, just not great...

I got the dist installed correctly long time ago.

I removed the bolt that is in the middle, that didn't help.

I replaced the thermostat with a new one and gasket.
How many times can I remove the thermostat without replacing the rubber gasket? Should I just get a gross of the gaskets? Looks like that would be the cheapest way to remove the cover if it needs to be removed more than once.
