Heres the deal, im running a GTE shortblock with all the GE electronics/intake/sensors etc. Long story but heres the problem. I notice that when it gets in boost it starts to make a ticking noise. Doesnt sound harsh enough to be knock and was wondering if anyone else has had this problem or noise and if its harmful or not. Im running an X02 manifold, T04E turbo, 6:1 FMU, straight 3" exhaust and only 8psi of boost. If im forgeting any need to know info just let me know. Any help would be awesome, thanks much guys.

yea try switching to a higher octane fuel or different gas station all together. My GTE did that for awhile last year so i decided to just use some premium fuel just once and it went away for good....for now:icon_razz

i have a question, if your using a gte block, and a turbo, why are you using ge electronics? maybe thats all ya had at the moment.

anyhow, i say check the timing and use better gas. 91-93 is ideal.

just .02 cents from my twisted mind.

I bought the supra with a blown GE. I planned on boosting it eventually so when i bought the new engine I went ahead and bought the GTE. I thought it was going to be a long block cuz thats what they said on the website, but it wasnt. So in an act of desperation to get the car running I just used the manifolds/sensors/electronics etc. from the GE. Get me if im wrong but the GE intake mani looks like it would flow better or atleast more evenly. Either way thats the story...

BTW - im running 91 octane(highest I can find in Fort Collins, CO) Thinkin about trying that toluene method of octane booster, but still kinda "iffy" about if its safe or not.

Dont know if you can or how to adjust timing on GE electronics, and i need a timing light anyway... Thought that 6:1 FMU would do it but i guess its not enough, i have a 12:1 kit for it but I dont want my fuel pressures that high.

FMU= fuel management unit. Sort of like a super pressure regulator.

http://www.cartech.net/fmu2020.htm

The link is simply to show an example. Vortech Superchargers also use them.

At your elevation, 91 should be good enough. Check timing with a timing light. It isn't hard. Get some help if you need it. To change it, you put the ECU in diagnostic mode, and turn the distributor until you are correct.

The FMU is an old school sort of thing, but it does work. It is a cheap way to increase fuel delivery on a car that was originally naturally aspirated.

Look into getting a wideband (if you don't have one already) and post back what your a/f ratios are. I'm goin with the other guys on here and saying it could be a little detonation due to some GE hardware or being out of timing.
