Wow I was realy tired last night and probaly half asleep when i posted this thread because I have a hard time understanding myself.

My throttle cable keeps getting stuck because the butterfly thingy it attaches to manages to slide underneath each other and gets stuck at wot sometimes. Its pretty scary and good thing it hasn't happened at Highway speed YET!!!(knock on wood) So far all I do is kill the ignition and pull over to the side of the road.

First time it happened I was going up hill at slow speed so it wasn't a problem.

Second time I was following a friend and we were F-ing around a little and started to come to a light and I went to down shift and as soon as the car was in neutral the rpms went crazy so I had to kill it still doing like 20 mph and throw up the E-brake because everyone knows the regular brakes get rock hard when you kill the engine.

All I realy need to know is what year 4runner can I get the throttle cable from so I could eliminate that butterfly thingy and put in my JDM throttle body.

Thanx in advance to anybody that could help me.

i've got a JDM throttlebody on my car, (JDM motor). i used to be N/A, so i used my stock N/A throttle cable. it works great. here's some pics of how i secured it. it's pretty ghetto looking, but it works flawlessly. sorry for the crappy pics, they're from my cameraphone. also, you can see that i used a simple nut/bolt/washer combo to hold it to the existing cable guide.

Did you ever have the cable come out of the holder?

I was thinking 4runner because I remember people saying it was longer than the N/a and thought it would work better with this set up and maybe not need to use the nut and bolt to hold it down.

another ? for you shaeff- how far do you live from the city???

it's never once come out of the holder. i've got some thread lock on there, as well as two lock washers, one on each side. it fits damn tight because the way the little steel cable guide is, fits PERFECTLY with the hex head of the bolt!

a little longer cable would make it a bit easier to do, so if you can, get the 4 runner one, but if you cant, the N/A will work fine.

i'm roughly 2 hours north of NYC. about 100miles or so... interesting tidbit- i bought my supra roughly two years ago, off ebay. my father and i trailered it back from brooklyn.

at first i took apart my cruise control and used that cable, worked great. except the guy who rebuilt my motor lost it.

anyway now i have some white (high temp) zip ties forming my throttle linkage. ITS ONLY TEMPORARY. i have some speaker wire im gonna use......haha.

but im gonna try what shaeff did, that looks 1000000x better than whatever shit i can invent.

How does the JDM throttle body accomodate cruise control and an automatic gearbox? I can't quite see it from the pics...... or do the AT models have the same throttle linkage as the non-JDM Supras?
I'm asking because I'd love to have a direkt link, but I have an AT and want to keep my cruise control. But maybe it's possible to fab something up together with the NA throttle cable, I'll have to take a look into it.

i'm not sure, as i deleted the cruise control because i've always hated it. i'm not sure about automatics because i've got a 5 speed, and i've never seen another mkiii where i live. ever. :( anything is possible with a little custom fabricatoin and innovation!

Dang, just get a stock part from the salvage yard, keep your cruise control and all the right linkage for the Auto guys. (This thread is not only disturbing, but what a way to screw up your car. Cobble up some mismatched parts for the throttle cable, why not just go the whole way, and fit some bike brakes on your car while your at it....)

Or some cards held by clothespins so you get that chopper sound when you drive?

LOL

eh, i happen to hate cruise control, and eliminated it before i even got the JDM motor. and i hated the stock linkage when i had an N/A, and the turbo linkage isnt much different, if at all, so i adapted my JDM TB. it's really not ghetto, it looks good, and is functional.

there's nothing mismatched about my car.

I had a similar thing happen to my USDM throttle control. I drilled out the center bolt on the actuator and replaced it with a normal bolt and nut with threadloc and replaced the nylon washers with new ones. The worn nylon washers were what was causing the actuator to stick open. Worked great but then I just stole the one off my parts car and have been using that.

On a side note I couldn't imagine being without cruise control. I absolutely love it. But I go on really long drives (days) where it is really nice to have. I had a friend who hated it and thought it was bogus until he finally got a car that had it. Now he can't live with out it either. I guess to each his own but I couldn't live with out my cruse control.

i ended up using the ball end from my original throttle linkage and a throttle cable from a 97 camry, epoxied them together and BAM, instant (well, over night) throttle cable.

the end from the camry fits on the JDM piece, and your original ball end clips on right where it is supposed to go. a little adjustments and you are good to go.

I don't know for sure, but I'd be willing to bet a late 80's Tercel throttle cable would work very well, as well as an AE86 throttle cable. They are both almost the same length IIRC, and they would work perfectly, as that's the way their TBs are setup.

jdm throttle body=no cruise control... apparently shaeff hates it ;), but that's pretty interesting, lol... i had the usdm parts w/ me, so i figured why not? lol... pluss i'm trying to keep it as close to stock as possible (in function)
