Well, looking around, I see that there are people making 6XX hp on stock rods. I have been working on destressing mine with a dremel and sanding wheels. Now, I plan on getting them shot peened, new small end bushings, have them resized. What kind of power am I looking to see before one snaps off? What kind of abuse will that take? I have ARP rod bolts to use. What is the recomended torque on them?
Another question. If I get a precision scale and make sure each rods wieghs within, say, 1 gram of each other, and I am running wiseco forged pistons which are pretty exact in closeness on weight, do I need to have the rotating assembly balanced? (yes I know that is nowhere near a proper sentence, but its 2:30 am I'm tired and don't care) I have a fidanza flwheel, ACT clutch, a new harmonic balancer....
Anything special I need to do to the head? I am only looking for 550 or so whp. My head was reworked almost exactly a year ago. I have had no problems out of it, I had a cometic gasket in place. The head has 20000 miles on it since the rebuild.
Are ARP main studs worth the money, or is that really a weak point in our engines? I don't want to spend the extra cash if it is not worthwhile, but I will if need be.
