For those that have broke a thrust washer and pulled the trans apart. Was the clearance obvious or did you have to pull the output shaft out and disassemble it to find out? I have it apart but don't think that it is my problem and don't want to pull the whole thing apart if I don''t have to.

I did have a loose bolt on the 1st shift rail, rubbing the case. I hope that's the only reason why it was hard to shift 1st to second under load. I have had it pop out of first a few times, second once though.

The last pic is of where the bolt was rubbing the case. I don't know if that was enough to make the oil so much though. Every thrust washer failure pic I've seen was just broken peices, not worn down to add to the oil.

well start taking her apart!, what are you waiting for?
it's not that hard, you just need a press that will do about 5 tons max...
and alot of patience and tripple checking!

if you look in the tsrm you can find a page that talks about checking second gear thrust clearence, and you have to set up a dial indicator on thegear set and move it to check it, i think it's around .015mm?

from what i have been told by a few people i may have killed my 1st gear thrust washer because it doesnt want to stay in first gear at all. Ill let off the clutch it'll want to grind then pop out. hopefully sometime soon ill be able to pull the tranny out and apart
