well most of you know i bought my 89 supra last month for about 2,000 off of some old guy.when i bought it i knew it had some kinda oil leak, not so bad right well i found out today the damage.it needs, rear main seal, oil is leaking in the the clutch so i have to replace that.the front main seal, all the gaskets and seals in the front, the valve cover gaskets and I have to take the head off anyway to get to a seal in the back of the motor so i will do the head gasket too. this sucks its going to come out to about 2k :nono: plus all my brake calipers are frozen.my poor car is a nightmare sorry i had to vent alittle,i feel like my heart is broken or something i mean i know it needed some work but damn.plus i am worried that because i have so much oil dripping i might have a engine fire :(

also what head gasket is the best and how much does it need to be torqued down too?

Damn.......How did you get this car home?

It's not so bad..........When you get through, you will have a very nice car, and you won't have to question the history on it anymore. You will be able to trust almost everything on it.

On the head gasket issue, If your HP goals aren't too high, you should be able to get away with the stock gasket. Just make sure you torque it well over the stock 55LBS. You will want to be in the 70-80 range, and you will be fine.

You can do the rear main seal without ever popping the hood of the car. Since it seems like you have so much stuff to replace you may as well do the head gasket at the same time, though. You have your work cut out for you. You'll save a TON of money if you do everything yourself.

Take the motor to Northeast auto machine in wethersfield. They work on a bunch of 7m's. I wouldn't trust the 7m to just any shop. They'll also cost you less than 2k. I had my whole engine rebuilt mhg, arp hardware and all from top to bottom for $1600.

If you need a hoist to take it out or a truck to move it let me know and I might be able to help.

Hey alexandra sorry to hear your having this trouble but glad to hear your stiking with it. You wont be disapointed once you get her running again. Are you doing the work yourself? if so +1 to you.

as far as headgasket, if it hasnt had a head gasket replaced already then the head hasnt been decked before so i'd stick with their regular thickness gasket not the 2mm.

i'd go with a cometic head gasket, it will give you some freedom compared to the hks which needs perfect surfaces on the block and head. A cometic will do good with just your head getting decked and your block on a mechanics straight edge. Get some ARP's on there and that should be good to go just dont use any sealants. Make sure to torque a minimum of 75ft/lbs, if you use studs make sure to do a retourque after a couple thousand miles.

The main seals shouldnt be to hard either they will be straight forward when you get to them.

Since it looks like you've had your leek for a while im sure everything is coated in oil, go at it like a mofo with simple green and brake cleaner.

Good luck.

btw did you even get a chance to enjoy the dp?

the downpipe went on, along with the intake. it boosts a lot quicker, and you can hear it nicely. alex, i recommend that we take that to NE machine, and get everything done right. oh, and when the motor is out we can scrub down that engine bay and get all that stuff off of there.

I think sooner or later that will happen no matter what, it happened to me with the maim oil seals.. , think it costed me a good 1500.
then another yr some of the calpers froze up..

supra means money... so if you aint got it, just throw in the towel.....

good luck with it..

Take the head off and get the machine shop to:
- Check it for hardness
- Check it for straightness
- Machine it flat
- Tell you how much material has been taken off when they are done.

Take this measurement, add it to anything you take off the block, add the thickness of a stock headgasket, and order the closest MHG thickness you can.

Sorry to hear about that. Like someone mentioned earlier, There are quite a few MKIII supra Gurus in your state. You should contact them and see if they can assist you. I dont think it should cost that much for that job, not even close. thats full rebuilt price range. Go to your regional forum http://www.supramania.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=22
People that know this engine very well will charge you much much less than what you were quoted. especially those part of that community.

Good luck
