For the past month of doing the little fixes here and there after a top end rebuild to no avail and the supra still just sitting in the driveway, I have been thinking about selling the supra. One thing that is somewhat fueling the thought is that I am moving away for college and its hard to just move a car that does not run completely from place to place. I have another car that I drive as a DD, I hate it but I can at least move it without having to tow, push, or pull it. I love being able to come home and see it sitting in my driveway and not someone else's but the thought of mine wont drive kills that joyful thought. I know it would seem easy to just say, "well just go out there and get it running", but I dont have any time lately. From going to work and making sure college is full go to getting my place I just havent had time for it, at all. The thing that holds me back is the money and time that I have put into it and knowing that it wont be regained by selling. When it did run I loved to be able to actually feel boost, but getting to drive the car didnt last long before problems started arriving more and more with the cost of each doubling more and more with each problem.

Cliff Notes
-Thougts about selling
-Going to college
-No real time for it anymore
-Problems just keep arising
-Selling Supra wont regain time and money spent into car

Thanks for listening to my thoughts, I had to get them out somewhere

Supras come and go... your life doesnt. You can go to college get rid of the supra, you might not have as much fun with it or you might have more fun. But once you finish college you can get another one... probably even make baller amounts of money to dump into the car. You have to decide how much you value it right now and if its worth it to you.

Take it from me fellow college dude. The car, however cool it is now to you, can always me topped by an even cooler one when you're done college. I had a similar decision as you. My choice? I sold my $4000 engine which took me 2 years to build up saving shit money for, I'm parting out my car, and sellign all of it before I go to school in 4 weeks.
Why you ask? After college we both will be able to buy MUCH better cars, and put money into them without worrying as much. It's hard to let go, but it really does help having that extra cash. Trust me as long as you keep the dream, you will carry that car with you forever.

O-K...
But if you're done college working in a nice job from your education you helped fund with your moderate supra, could you not then afford a better supra? Yes?
Eric is right !

True, that is the possibility in question. However maybe he has problems that arise from keeping this car during school? Maybe he doesn't have a good place to keep it? Maybe parents won't let keep in garage etc... w/e the case. I am not keeping mine due to space and lack of use during school. Unless you daily drive it you'll have similar issues I would think during a college year.

Aight, cool then I guess you didn't have issues like other people might and do. You're lucky then. I'll stop stealing this thread ahahaa, so I end with this;
What would IJ do?

Keep it garaged. Work on it in your free time. Once you get it rebuilt it should be pretty reliable if you've done a good job. I don't think I'd ever sell mine but I would put it away if it came down to that.

+1 to that, it's what I'm doing right now. I'm just sick of working on my car so it's parked for....well I'm not sure for how long.

yes, space is an issue for me. If I had it running without any problems I would be trying a lot harder to keep ahold of it. But to have it in not running condition with no place to put it is somewhat hard to justify going to college.

how rare and clean is it, if its in incredible condition and you dont think you'll find something like it in the future stash it somewhere, you have parents dont you, ask to leave it there, otherwise sell it get on with life and get something better when your rolling in it.

Thats what i'm doing, im getting another DD that can handle intense snow so i can stash the supra at my parents house till i graduate.

I am with americanjebus...if your car is rare or in good shape, try and hold on to it as in the future there will be even fewer supras in good condition, but if you feel you can get one just as nice, if not better in the future, go for it. My car kills me to not be running, but like a lot of people on here, I have a dd, I am in college and I am not made of money, so for the past year I have been working on my car because it has low miles and is in good condition. I could have waited until after college to get the car of my dreams, but to me, I wanted to build that car so that is the road I am taking. I wish it was ready now, but after all of the hard work, money, blood, sweat, etc, the car will be priceless to me when she is finished.

yeah, I vote for selling it and getting another one when the time is right.

Listen, I know we all have special relationships with our cars, but in the end its just a car (please keep flaming to a minimum...lol). You will likely be able to afford a better one after school is done, and your life allows for it.

Im, pretty sure Im gonna sell both my Supra's at the end of the summer (dont panic, Im probably just gonna upgrade to a 91/92 turbo targa if I can find one). Ive enjoyed having them and getting 'em just the way I like. For me thats the part I enjoy the most. Ive said it before, Im all about the journey, not the destination.

I think the hardest part of your decision is about the money you have into it, and knowing that when its not running its not gonna get top dollar. You may just have to "take a bath" on it and chalk up the loss to experience and entertainment.
