I've been chasing a strange 45mph vibration in my 87 turbo for a while. I jacked the back of the car up and ran it off the ground at 45mph and the vibration was very bad. I was checking for play in all the rear end parts when I noticed the CV flange on the passenger side of the diff clunks in and out about 1/4". The driver side is solid. I'm guessing this is causing the vibration. Is this something that can be fixed or should I just look into swapping another diff?

I wouldn't diagnose something completely without seeing it apart first. You should get the cover off and pics of whats going on inside before you take it apart, There are people here that I'm sure would be glad to help if you post some pics.
