think my t-stat is going out car isn't over heating but getting way hotter than usual but not losing/low on water. so i'm putting a new one in just wondering if it matters if the little burp nipple or whatever it is need to be on the top or bottom when installed or does it matter? (forgot to look how it was when i took the old one out :(

Supposed to be at the top to let air bubbles through.

But id cut it off to allow more to get through and it speeds up getting all the air out.

Also when the engine warms up id make sure that both the rad hoses are about the same temp and not one hotter than the other. That will tell you if the radiator is clogged.
