yes

the car needs to reach a certain operating temprature to switch from its open loop programming to its closed loop programing.

160 degrees is too cold unless the car is drag only.

I haven't heard of that.

I am running 160 deg T-stat and don't have any problems.

How would one know if I was running closed vs. open loop?

well, right now i am running what is called a "race style" basicly all it is is a normal thermastat cut down. the spring is gone as well as the peice that stops the flow. now here is my reason why. i had it tested for a BHG and the guy said it didnt have the sings, but he tought the thermastate was bad. well it would keep over heating when i would put a normal thermastat in. so i took one apart put it in. just enofe in there to keep some what of a restricted flow. and it runs just fine. infact it runs like a bat outa hell. past a state trooper buddy of mine at 140MPH and climbing...he called me on my phone and told me to slow it down a little.....so thats why i did it the way i did...

thanks
