Well, after being out of the game for awhile, I recently reaquired an 88 turbo hardtop (the one in my avatar), a garage full of parts, and 3 parts cars. Seeing how the blue 88 I have is hard top, with an abortion of a sunroof installed, I turn my nose up at it! (After its all said and done, it will most likely be sold dirt cheap and gutted for someone to use for a drift car if they so choose).

This lead me to put feelers out to look for what I really wanted (a targa). 1 month and $500 later, I ran across an 88 targa that has a fairly clean body, although the front bumper is suspect. Nothing really extensive with the exception of a little painting.

Its an auto car, I am going to convert to manual (from donor car). I also have a freshly rebuilt 7MGTE with .25 (yes a quarter mile) on it (also from donor car). The car is 042 White Pearl Mica Metallic.

This car also has Super Monitor! (Never owned one with it)

Planned Upgrades:
  • I have a full elbow-back 3 inch exhaust
  • Planning to send the turbo off for rebuild and 57 trim upgrade
  • I have a Lexus AFM, one day i'll buy the 550s
  • I have an HKS Bead MHG, but I need to get the donor engine machined for it.
  • Need to get another intake. I had a K&N but god knows where it is.
  • I have an EBC somewhere off an old car, not sure if its complete though, have to locate and check.
  • Eventually will upgrade the intercooler and piping.
  • I also have an AEM cam gear laying around I might throw on the intake cam just to look cool....seriously...thats why.

The appearance bucket list:
  • Gotta fix and respray the body and nose cone (Have to get the color matched, its been painted a white pearl, and looks pretty sweet)
  • I already have the 17" MKIV Turbo wheels with tires.
  • The car is lowered up front, but doesn't seem to be in the rear, I have to investigate why the shocks aren't TEMS when the car is equipped with them.
  • New leathers from leatherseats.com (I have a set from them for my old SC400 and the quality is EXCELLENT)

This is how she looked this morning, I had already taken the hood off to start gutting the engine bay.

The hood shows just how dirty this bastard is. It sat in the woods for 3 years!

Aside from the seats, glove box, steering wheel, and console cover, the interior is near mint. Gotta love years of sitting in the shade.

Gotta love the mint door panel, doesn't even have the worn out "elbow" spot, and it has the lock bezel and unbroken window switch too!

This was what awaited me under the hood. I love the exhaust pipe that is used for intake piping with "KP Motorsports" written in black sharpie...:naughty:

Gutting in progress...

This is the only real rust on the car. Looks like maybe the battery exploded a long time ago. The core support isnt deformed in any way, just has that rust there. Good thing I have 3 or 4 more of them...

Done for the day. It started raining.

Next Steps:
  • Engine removal (Just have to get under the car and undo the mounts, and fuel line.)
  • Continue disassembling the cowl
  • Pressure wash the engine bay/cowl
