The Loudest Bypass Valve

I have spent countless hours looking at the infinite number of threads regarding all of the repeated blow-off valve questions about what sounds the best, what works best, what the cheapest route may be, and of course the ever-so-repeared "Why do I stall after revving since I installed me atmophere-venting BOV". Stupid.

The blow-off valve theory for our stock 7M's is simple. Atmosphere blow-off is kissing (hissing) metered air good-bye and the right way to do it with the stock MAF is to recirculate. The aesthetic benefits of an atmosphere-vented blow-off valve are not worth what it does to the performance, so it makes the choice simple for me. RECIRCULATE.

When the good weather comes in the spring and my supra comes out of hibernation, I will be making the aftermarket bypass/blow-off valve purchase.

My question is simple: Who makes the loudest bypass valve/recirculated blow off valve? I want the car to use it's metered air as designed but I really want to hear some flutter. I have heard the Bosch 110 is simply the best choice, but what is the loudest? Re-circ HKS SSQV, Re-circ Turbo XS?

Psssshttt. Over.

The TurboXS is advertised as "the loudest BOV you can buy." Also, iirc, it says on their website that "If you have to ask how loud it is, it's too loud for you."

Here it is:

Blow Off Valve Type H-RFL (BOV-RFL) US$189.00
With new and improved styling, the BOV-H-RFL remains true to it's roots - it's still really f'n loud! Like all our valves, the RFL relieves compressor pressure surge caused by changing gears or backing off the throttle and has been used on turbo charged engines running upto 35 psi boost. If you need to ask how loud it is, this valve is too loud for you! Blow Off Valve Type H-RFL comes standard with both a mild steel and aluminum weld-on adapters. Bolt-on kits are available for most OEM turbocharged applications.

I have one on my 1JZ and I was expecting it to be louder. I didn't recirculate, though, so what do I know?

It's not loud on your 1j because the port where the stock BOV is is small.

Move it somewhere else and the volume will increase.

Killin' me, guys. That's an atmosphere BOV.

I'm looking for loud recirc/bypass.
Just because its one that people use for atmosphere vent, doesnt mean you can recirculate it. the HKS BOV has a fitting you can buy to ricirculate it.

i've never seen a greddy s with compressor surge on our cars. are you sure you have it connected to the right vac port? and you may also need to adjust it.

turboxs makes a racing type H. it is the same valve as the RFL, but has a pipe outlet instead of a horn so you can recirc it.

i've sold a few of the hks bypass valves too, and people have been real happy with them. http://www.hksusa.com/images_products/1271.jpg

Ditto! :3d_frown:

Lol. I have to agree there. I actually posted that the HKS type II was loud. What I didn't say is that I did not expect to be loud. I am actually having new IC piping made and will be using a Tial because a few people have told me it is one of the most effective BOV's.

FWIW, I bought the HKS BOV, and I'm splurging the extra $12 to get the recirculation fitting.

I don't know how loud it'll be. I'm actually kind of hoping that it isn't, but the HKS valve is pretty loud normally, so who knows...

I know a ton of you think it's ridiculous that I even posted this thread, but if you read what I wrote, my first concern is performance. As far as I know, as long as it's recirculated, the only other variable is time for valve to open and duration (how much pressure will be lost post-turbo, pre-manifold).

If it's recirculated, tuning the valve bleeder allows the user to make it work right, so any tunable recirculating valve has the potential to do what toyota designed the system to do. This is what leads me to get opinions on noise level of recirc/bypass valves.

This thread isn't all about making my car whoosh FTW, so don't take it that way - it's about whoosin' FTW at a proper A/F ratio when I pass the 'rich' kid who thinks his atmosphere BOV is cool.
