ok, I am abit curious, in our profiles, there is that row of green sqares,
some people have one like myself, an some people have many/alot .
like mine say something to the effect of being of on a distinguished path.

how does an what are the ways of them accumilating ? I ws guessing the more you post outside of the O/T you get more squares.

I noticed that the people that pave like a thousand posts have alot of squares, compared to me, an now I noticed that there was a member that only had about 40 posts more than me an had a butt load od sqaures,,,

just curious to know how it works an who makes up the sayings when you put your mouse on it ?

Reputation is added (or removed) by people clicking on the rep button in your posts (it looks like a set of scales). They can add or remove rep based upon what you posted. Any registered member or member of the SM staff can do so.

Different people give out different amounts of rep. It depends on many factors including the grantors current reputation, time as a member of SM, number of posts, etc.

Moderators & Administrators also add and remove LARGE amounts of rep when they use the button.

Simply put, your reputation (and reputation granting power) could be said to be a direct reflection of "who you are" around here. Posts good posts, and get approval from other members and your reputation (and rep granting power) increases. Post junk and get disapprovals, and your reputation (and rep granting power) can all but dissapear.

In the end, it's not a big deal, as no part of SM uses rep for access control or any other function. It's just there as a fun thing.

If you don't like it, feel free to ignore it.

It's been my experience that overall the system works pretty well for the most part. It's got several controls built in. For example, someone can't just keep giving you bad rep over and over. You have to "spread it around a bit" before you can add or remove rep from particular individual a second time.

On a side note (and this is not directed at you willfish, just to everyone in general) I've found that people who complain about the rep system are usually people who, for one reason or another manage to piss other members off and are getting negative rep. If you are getting lots of negative rep, you might want to stop and ask yourself "why?".

Some of them are the vBulletin forum defaults, some are just "Suprafied" versions of the defaults, some of them I made up, some the other admins did.

Personally I think negative rep should be anonymous so that you don't get retaliatory negative rep back. At least it makes me hesitant to leave negative rep because it kinda pisses people off, especially the kind of people who deserve negative rep... (they don't usually take criticism well :icon_razz)

CK is kind of like the comic relief for the staff around here.

That's his electronic "court jeter's" suit...
