Hi all, helping out a mate with his car as his motor had lost comp on cylinder number 3. Went to find out why and it was horrible. Long story short, sold him a good block I had, ARP head studs and a 2.0MM titan headgasket from a fellow member here and had the short block flex honed,re-ringed and bearings replaced.

Just went down with it quickly with those 3 claw deglaze stones to see how bad the low spots were. Determined to need pistons 84+mm or just find a decent short block instead which is what we went with

I was very surprise to find how forgiving the motor was when they used a 1.2mm Cometic MHG for a BHG job without even decking the block :O
Guess they hoped for a miracle and they got it.

According to the owner, he stated that this didn't happen when he was thrashing the car. It just gradually got worse as he daily drove it, many possibilities but didn't ponder too much about why it happened and let the cause remained a inconclusive mystery.

We got another block and a spare set of injectors that were tested, balanced and it's filters replaced so a new page and a fresh beginning!

More photos to come, stay tuned!

Lot of cool stuff done to the engine there.
But:

1. How did you lap the block surface?
2. Did you cover the piston pin bores prior to sand blasting the rods?
3. Did you just sandblast the underside of the pistons, or the sides and tops as well?
4. What coating is now on the pistons?
5. Why did you sandblast the caps, rods, pistons and crank anyway??
