ok, well I can't make up my mind, I really like the automatic tranny, always have, I've owned 1 5-speed car out of 6. I know my tranny won;t last forever, so my question is, Do I do a stock rebuild, my car is turbo of course, buy a built tranny from IPT or do the th350 swap, my question about that swap is, how involved is that, I know a plate goes for like $5-600, is a real hard job, or pretty much straight foward, who has done it, what do you suggest I do.

Do you want over drive and how fast do you intend to go down the quarter mile? IPT tells you the trans is good for 10 flat and above, and to go domestic if you are serious and want to go faster.

You might search nosechunks. He was looking into a GM overdrive trans, but I don't know how that went.

I am not sure if Toyota still sells an overhaul set. I was only prepared to answer the GM question.

Check Champion Toyota. Or IPT Trans.

yeah, I was gonna buy a overhaul kit from IPT and have somoe to do it, not sure how much t would cost though.

I would think that a local trans shop, or chain would have a builder. The store may or may not let you bring your own parts.

That is when you ask the builder if he does side jobs. A builder, not installer.

i am in the process of the swap now. here is my thread (little slow going)

http://www.supramania.com/forums/showthread.php?t=79473

i had a full built stock auto on mine for several years and didn't have any issues. decided to change because the gm is geared well for drag racing, super strong and parts are cheap compared to a toyota trans. also for drag racing you can run a transbrake on the gm.

expect around 1000 rpm more than stock at cruise speeds and a reduction in mpg if you do a lot of highway driving. city driving it wont be quite as noticeable.
