Testing the DashPot

The dashpot is that little thing on the throttle body right? How can i test that? THE online TSRM is down so I can't get to that...


also, can someone explain how this bugger works?

Well, when you hit the gas and let off the throttle, the butterfly would close all the way and the car would stall out. The dashpot keeps it from completely closing too fast, thus eliminating stalling the engine.

Above post is close, but not.

The dash pot serves one purpose....to lower emmision levels when the throttle is closed suddenly. It keeps it open for a second, and slowly lets it close. You can eliminate it if you wish. But keep it in case you need it for a smog test.

Our cars are so old, that only a very bright technician would know its missing.
