Temp Spike

Hey, Supra Experts, maybe you can shed some light on this for me:

This morning when I stopped for gas, I turned the car back on and the temp guaged rose to almost hot. I quickly turned it off, and popped the hood, but found no tell-tale signs of overheating. I turned the car back on, and the temp began to drop. As I put in in gear and began driving, the temp fell back to normal.

Is my thermostat goin out? Is it a bigger problem? Or could it just be a fluke?

Heat soak. Pretty common.... how hot is it in CO at the moment?

Mid to high 80's. Maybe low 90's. Ain't been outside since this morning. We had a heat wave here about a month ago, and temps got up over 100! Dry heat, my ass!

The problem is that your engine needs to be on to dissipate the heat it generates. When you turn it off, heat from the engine will boil coolant in the block and fuel in the fuel rail instead of being handled by the radiator, because your water pump only runs with the engine.

I'd suggest leaving the key in the ON position to use your aux electric fans, or opening the hood.

Yup, you are just paranoid.

Besides, even if you blow a gasket, it's still only a day's work to fix it. :)
