Ok, so I'm looking for an engine to put in my car just to get it running again. Once I've got her back on the road, I'll be working on a full rebuild of my 7mgte to make some decent power.

In the mean time though, I've been toying with the idea of doing some cheap mods to the temp engine just for the fun on it. Mind you this is not to make a lot of power, and I'll only need it to last a season or three until I have my other engine finished.

Anyway, you can pick up some seriously cheap mods on ebay, and I'm tempted to throw these in for a little fun. You can get a tube man, turbo, intercooler, pipes, wastegate and BOV all for $1k to $1.2k if you buy them grouped (including shipping). Does anyone know if this stuff is good enough quality that it's worth it, or am I a moron to even consider this?

Feel free to point and laugh, I won't mind! :biglaugh:

Personally I'd save the cash for a 1st class build...a $1000 buys a lot of machine work ;)

Ok, You're Stupid. Hey, you asked for it.

IMO you're about to run right smack into the Fast, Cheap, Reliable rule. Pick two. Going the Ebay route you've already chosen Cheap...

Yeah, I'm well acquainted with the rule. I'm kinda hoping the the Fast/Cheap side of things will be reliable enough to get me through until I've built my good engine. I know it's a lousy idea, but it's so tempting...

I dont understand how a chinaman turbo set-up from ebay would be appealing. Stick the 1k into some good machining work/quality products and build it right the first time.

i mean.. intake, exhaust and a couple washers in the wastegate is gonna cost you like 300 TOTAL bucks if you wanna go the cheap/ somewhat fast / somewhat reliable route..

It's likely you will be rebuilding two engines at once. Is it such a crime to drive a (dare I say) stock 7MGTE??????? It's just until you finish building the other one.

This.
