hey guys, fairly new to the forum. this might have been covered numerous times so i apoligize cause im in a bit of a rush. so hopefully you all dont beat me up to much for not searching as much as i should have

90 7mge, around 200k purchused about 5 months ago, was sitting for a swap, situation changed so it will need to be a barely running daily for about 1-2 months untill the swap occurs ( chevy 5.3, but ill post about that later)

i am a master tech so i am familiar with everything suggested that i will need to do.

having the temp and idle issues commonly associated with a bhg, not surprised. but here is the question

metal hg and arp bolts a must? i know its the way to fix, but a cheap gasket kit and bolts would deff fit my situation, just want it to run, wont blast on it.

and is milling the head a must?

common issue with this motor i know, but will the cheap repair last a few months. dont really want to spend 150+ on a mhg that will be used for a month or 2

trust me i know the arps and mhg are the correct answer, just curious if anyone has had any luck with the cheap repair.

any answers from you guys is very appriciated. hoping to become more of an active member here as my build progesses

The felpro gasket with arp head bolts will work as long as the head isn't badly warped. If the head is badly warped, it would need to be milled flat again to assure a good HG seal.

Don't add any copper gasket sealer or anything like that, just make sure that both surfaces are clean. Run the engine at idle for a few minutes to let the temps come up then let it sit and retorque the head bolts in the same sequence. Some people say crack the bolts loose to assure a good torque.

If your oil is very milky, keep changing the oil til there's no milk left in the oil pan or you'll quickly get rod knock.

7MGEs will be fine with a stock gasket and even stock bolts. Yes ARPs are better, but their bolts aren't worth it, and if its temporary, ditto on the studs.

Decking the head is 50 bucks.. cheap insurance for a good seal.

For a MHG to seal you also need to deck the block. Again, not worth it in your situation.

and jetjock, if i was planning on running the ge for a much longer period of time, repairing the hg the way to hold very well under boost on an n/a motor might seem like overkill to some, but would be pretty good reassurance to me concidering both motors are extremely common to have issues.

Good. The retards use the internet to be known. That is my conclusion.

Toyota specs for the most part match SAE specs. .001 on the block and a little more on the head. The composite gasket will accomodate the rough surface, but not warpage beyond specs.
