as it started to rain hard here....my targa is starting to leak again.....i did a search and found out that the seals are usually bad and/or bolting it up incorrectly. the targa only drips on the passenger side rear where the targa meets the body...is that the rear seal or what? i want to order some new seals but i don't want to get the entire set since only that part is leaking....i've already took the targa off and sprayed it with silcone treatment...and got better but still only drips. doesn't splash when i brake or anythng...so u guys think its the rear seal or the right hand side seal? if i don't use the targa at all is there anyway i can just take it off and put some silicone on it w/o making a mess on the roof? or d you guys think its the bolting procedure that i should redo?

thanks

A lot of times you have to disassemble the targa and seal the side edge where the interior meets the exterior. Replacing the rear seal won't hurt.
SupraGirl had a ver informative post about this on the old site...
If it really bugs you, buy a hardtop ;)

As far as I know, there are 3 kinds of leaks the targa can get. Well 4 if you count a big rust hole in the targa itself.

If it leaks in the middle of the rear or only at the corners and not the front, then it is probably your rear seal. I looked at mine and saw 2 indentations on either side where water was getting in and I siliconed it all up.

If it leaks in the middle of the front then it is probably your front seal.

If it leaks from the front corners under braking or seems to randomly leak from any or all corners, then it could be any seal gone bad. Test by siliconing up the front and rear corners of the body seals and see if you still get leaks. If you do, then you are most likely in need of the side seal attachment fix. Also, anytime you silicon up the corners and then you take the roof off, you should put down more silicon when you reattach the roof to make sure you aren't chasing leaks in circles. It'll save you a big wet headache, trust me.

Oh, and also if you take the siliconed roof off, go gently and make sure the silicon is giving way and not the actual seal itself. And don't touch the paint with glue hands :)
