Hey everyone,

As you may have noticed, I am selling most of my aftermarket parts to go T4. I had my mind set on the Turbonetics 62-1 because bigaaron has it and it looks so shiny :D

I will give you a quick mod list of what I plan on running so that you can get a quick understanding of what I want.

3" turbo back
tubular manifold
hks replica wastegate
4" intake pipe with K&N intake
maft pro w/ speed density
XD-16 wideband
AFPR
Walbro Fuel Pump
Spearco IC w/ Custom 2.5" pipes

Hopefully always 94 octane.

That is all I can think of right now. I know the word streetable is overplayed and cliche, but I have to use it. This car will be a daily driver, but I want to make 400whp with more room for more boost and more power. I havent done alot of driving so I cant really say I know what lag feels like. I think bigaaron said that he makes full boost at around 4000rpm. Will 4k be fun for the street? If you need any more info I am more than willing to provide it.

Thank you!

Kyle

hmmm, i had a nice big t4 turbo, it made full boost a little after 4k rpm, it not much fun on the streeet, but it was a fuckin thrill ride when it spooled.:aigo: i miss it. also how much for the t netics? i would talk to jtamulis about a turbo, he calls the jt56l its supposed to spool lightning fast and be cappable of 400 rwhp. not saying arron dont know what hes doin, but i think this turbo would be alot better for street car. talk to him and see what hes says.

Jtamulis is the one that said the 62-1 is probably the best street turbo for the supra. So maybe I should shut up and go that route after all. 4k is alot to wait for, but its a great priced turbo.

realize there is a TON more that goes into how a turbo spools than just the compressor:

-turbine
-turbine housing A/R
-compressor
-compressor housing A/R

proper sizing involves balancing all those parameters with your goals in mind.

I've talked to a few members who own them, and I bought the Master Power T70 off ebay.

It was about 700.00 by the time I recieved it, but totally a good deal as I can't see any difference between this turbo and one from anyone else. (Quality is excelent I think, and I'm a picky guy.)

Have the same manifold and wastegate your talking about. So far, so go, but I'm still putting it all together. Eitehr buy MDC's adapter flange, or make your own, but it's not easy welding up everything and making it all fit right. Be prepared to spend a few hours minium fitting and customizing the whole deal. (Cutting off flanges, turning them, welding them up etc.)

It is so crazy that the guys producing this manifold do not try and test fit it on a motor with a larger turbo on there...

If they just revised the jig somewhat, it would make using this turbo so much less work!

Move the T4 flange forward 2.5"
Twist it so the compressor faces the snorkle inlet hole on the car. (About 8 degrees twisted outward.)
Turn the WG flange 90 degrees, and angle it slightly more at the engine so it clears the crossmember better.

The pipe would be cut to fit the jig, so that would be no problem I'd think. I would have them add a "jig" of minimum droop for the #1 runner, but pretty much that's it. (To clear those cars still running the factory oil filter mount.)

You could always blow $3200 on the HK$ T04Z, an intended replacement for the T04R. The compressor is the same I believe, but the housings are redisgned for spool. Can't say I have read a review on it anywhere.

T04E P trim .60 A/R would be good and can easily make 400rwhp and they are about the same as the other turbos listed above ($600-800). good spool from some of the older charts i've seen.

I have a Rajay T4...took me lots of research to find anything about it but apparently it was OEM on diesels and small aircraft (Cessna, Piper Cub, Mooney...). The original "semi-floating bearing" turbo and known for its reliability.

From what I read in this thread, its similar to other T4s in that it doesnt get full boost till 4000. Being used on large semis, its also designed for longevity; however for the power I get out of it, I'm disapointed with the spool. This design is from before the 1960s or so IIRC so if you have an option for a T4, do it if you dont have alot of money to spend on a turbo. Personally I'm saving up to spend over a kilo on a turbo for the best all around turbo IMO, GT35R. Peak efficientcy is higher than most any other turbo I could find comparing to have fast it spools.

But again, I'm not worried about pissing money away on my car once I have a decent income, so I'm okay with spending twice as much over a T4.

Oh yeah, and external wastegate is the best :icon_evil

T series turbos suck. Get a GT series and quit wasting your time and $. You will never find a T series turbo that performs better than a comprable GT series turbo.

When Kyle first asked, he said he wanted to make a SOLID 500rwhp, so a JT62
would work best (and is my personal favorite turbo), but if you only wanna
make 400+rwhp, not 500+ then a JT56 Lightning rocks the house! And any of
the JT series turbos can be had in a NON-bolt on form, but since I get the nice
LIPP stainless rear housings, and do make them a bolt on, It's way easier and
useually cheaper to get a bolt on .

Mine just made 390whp with the 62-1 at 14psi but the A/F was off, it was surging a little, and it got late so we didn't go further. The gt4082 compressor map looks like a good match for my basically stock 7m. Should be on the car this week and dyno soon after.
