I jus got a supra and everything on the car seems to be fine except that it didn't come with the tool to open the top with and the screws themselves arent very good. I got one of the screws off by usin a flathead but the heads of the other screws seem to be worn down, so does anybody have any advice on getting the old screws off an where to get a good deal on a replacement set?

Replacement bolts might be a good idea, but depending on how the bolts are worn, you might be able to use a different allen wrench size. Maybe an oppisite but similar (metric or US??) size. I have a wrench that fits but when i turn it, its strips loose. So i use a close size and it works like a charm.

You can buy replacements from Toyota likely. There are brackets that hold the screws in with a spring. You can get at the rear ones by taking the headliner off the targa top, there there is two bolts per bracket on the rear of the top for each bolt. The front bolts are held in the car unibody. You can take the interior paneling up front there and a find a setup similiar to the rear bolts as far as brackets go.

you dont have to remove the hearliner and brackets to change the rears. if you push them in as if they where threaded in (compressing the spring) you will see an E-clip that keeps them from popping out remove it and the pop right out. to remove the fronts you have to pull the interior trim and unscrew the retainer cups.

If you are having a problem unbolting the bolts to get the top off inorder to change the bolt out. hit up your local auto parts store and pick up a set of splined bolt extractors. not the spiraled easy outs, but the splined ones that you have to hammer in and the come right out. I have used it on mine and several other cars and it works great. just make sure to already have the new bolts from toyota before you do it.

the bolts are not that expensive from toyota but I dont remember how much. mack sure that you also get ne E-clips for the two rear bolts as the do tent to bend or brake. and shoud be replaced with the bolts.
