symtoms of a bad wastegate

so what are the symptons of a bad wastegate? i shimmed mine and it worked fine for a week and now my car is back to its 5psi, this is so annoying.

it could be booost leak but whenever i test it everything is fine (this is when the engine is cold and i can touch the turbo) it seems as tho once the car heats up forget bout it.. 5psi all over again

i just noticed on my way to work i have a 50 mile trip, the first 20 miles or so the car is boosting great, then soon after it all goes down hill to the point where when i floor it it sounds like the engine is growling or making much more noise than it should. i will go over each coupler again tonight but this has got to be the 4rth time checking every coupler

You could have a leak some ware els, i would say you should check you're hoses. A loose manifold is out because it should get better when warm.

I think, and i mean think! that it might be you're CPS.. because if herd this happen to someone on the forums and they ended up replacing there cps and found that to be the problem. Its all hear say tho.

Just out of curiousity who much did you shim the waste gate? Ive done the same thing and havent had any increase in boost. Ive not been able to find how much to shim exactly to get around 10psi. Right now I have washers that measure .022 on both sides. Sorry to get this off subject. Just curious.

i used this guide :
-Stock (no shims): Wastegate begins opening @ 7.4-7.5 PSI
-3mm shim (1 washer thick): Wastegate begins opening @ 7.7 PSI
-6mm shim (2 washers thick): Wastegate begins opening @ 8.2 PSI
-9-10mm shim (3 washers thick): Wastegate begins opening @ 8.8 PSI
-12mm shim (4 washers thick): Wastegate begins opening @ 9.6 PSI
-14-15mm shim (5 washers thick): Wastegate begins opening @10.7 PSI
