Fucks sake people - he was released from jail on SATURDAY and was burgling someones garage ALREADY! So you get lunged at, you panic, smack him with a sword, and YOU get charged? WTF?

The incident was the second this week in which a man was wounded trying to commit a robbery. An off-duty Baltimore police officer shot and critically wounded a man who had tried to rob him at gunpoint in his Northeast Baltimore home, according to police. He chased the man for two blocks before opening fire, police said.

Cop chases a guy (a bad guy, yes; emphasis is that cop chased Him) then shoots him, no punishment.
If they try to prosecute the kid for defending himself on his own property, they will be skewered.

It's got to be his word against a dead man's. How can they convict him unless he's already filed a statement saying that he cut the man up without fearing for his life? I couldn't convict him if I was on the jury.

The news story says that it's up to the state attorney's discretion if the kid will be charged. The title of this thread says he likely will be charged. While your title is outrage provoking, it's not completely accurate. With the comments that the police are releasing, I doubt seriously that he will be charged.
