Switching Oils?

I'm planning on changing oil in the next week, and was wondering if switching from standard to synthetic would give me any problems. Right now, I've got 10W40 Mobil Clean 5000, planning on switching to a new K&N oil filter and 10W30 Mobil 1 full synthetic.

Questions:

Would switching weights from 10W40 to 10W30 have any adverse effects (ie: more oil burn)?

Is there anything special I have to do, like drain the engine more thoroughly?

In short, will going from 10W40 to 10W30, standard to synthetic mess me up?

make sure you get a second opinion, but i think you can mix and not do anything else. i have mixed with other toyotas (camry) and i was fine.

I've been told you can switch from regular to sythetic, however, not the other way around. Reason being, synthetic protects the parts a bit more and almost causes a thin layer over the parts. Therefore the regular oil slides right over the synthetic. Although not very technical, I think that may be the reason...HTH

Clip: No probs at all this is how I break my motors in anyway start with single weight mineral oil and once the motor is bedded in nicely I switch out to Synthetic.

I made a fitting I can screw to my Oil Filter remote and plug into the compressor to help Purge the motor of old Oil so it doesn't dilute the new Oil as much, this way within a change or 2 you're fully Synthetic with no dregs of Mineral.

not to highjack this thread or anything but your signature is incorrect. To show an assassin's possession of something it would simply be assassins', not assassins's :D :werd:

So switching from mineral to full synthetics not a problem, but what about switching weights once you're already on syn? A guy at NAPA told me once on a weight, you need to stick with it, even if you stay synthetic. Sounds goofy to me. I've also been told you should stick with a specific brand... doesn't sound right to me either. Comments?

Damn that hurts!

Seriously, I hear more stupid crap from people working in the industry than I care to think about. Remember me asking about the idiot who said my rear wheels didn't need balancing? Seems like I hear bad/stupid advice more often than not these days. Common sense usually makes me think BS, but I usually want somebody to tell me I'm right for calling it that way.

now that we've determined that there's no problem switching oils, what about installing a catch can. would it be worth it in a situation like this, with my NA that has around 182,xxx miles?
