I have 2 supras
89 Turbo A/T
86.5 N/A 5Spd

Now they are

89 N/A 5Spd
86.5 Turbo 5Spd

I did a straight swap, just wanted to get it done and get boosted.I understand the differences about the harnesses and what not but I just find some of the problems Im having weird.

On my 86.5 (kept and using the grey harness and ECU) my headlights are Inop. I dont know what the engine swap had anything to do with that but it happened afterwards.

Next, on the 89 the engine doesnt turn on.
The symptoms are as follows;
1) Engine cranks (Starter Ok)
2) Spark is present
3) Fuel (seems) to flow
4) Engine just keeps cranking but doesnt start.
Anyone have any ideas? Similar problems to that?

The next issue is that the headlights stay on when the key is turned, or when the power stays on. Not sure My brother is working on that one and I didnt follow the problem thoroughly since I was trying to figure mine out.

I found a previous post
http://www.supramania.com/forums/showthread.php?t=70162&highlight=headlights

but I wanted to see if anyone else has a better idea rather than changing harnesses maybe repining or altering?

Anyway I hope someone can help. Thanks.

For the tach problem, make sure you hooked the speedo cable back up to the tranny, and if you did, make sure its clean and everything. Could be as simple as that.

If you are clueless, then dont respond. The speedo cable has nothing to do with tachometer operation.

Turbo and N/A tachs are different and have to be swapped over as well.

This replay should have all your answers in it.

Update:

86.5 Runs and drives.

I couldnt figure out what is keeping the headlights from working so I installed those pepboys headlight wire kits and the headlights operate somewhat with the Original column switch.

The tach is still inop thought. I have known about the NA and Turbo tachs so that I will tackle at a later time.

The speedometer is still inop as well. I might have damaged it when I removed the engine because that is hooked up.

Thanks guys for your input Ill keep updating.

I read about the headlight problem once. It seems to come from the ECU harness or ECU itself. They dont take well to being swapped into earlier model cahssis. Seems to always happen when an 89+ ECU and harness are swapped into an older chassis. Search around as there was a write up on how to fix posted somewhere.

Update:
Bought the boost controller on Ebay. Dindt work then hooked it "backwards" like other posts say...

...Almost blew my engine, I forgot to return the knob the other way...and boosted over 20 psi...Intercooler piping blew off the intercooler...Further investigation will comence this morning. crossing my fingers it was only that.

But I must say boosting over 20psi is fucking nuts...It scared me because I wasnt expecting it, like I said before I forgot the boost controller was set to highest boost.
