I have a 88 N/A 5spd. with a recent BHG, go figure, anyways i very excited because now the supra gets forced induction!! the GTE will be on its way soon. I've done alot of research on the N/A to Turbo swap and have search this site many times for answers, but still have a few Q's
1. My car is a 88, does the wireing harness need to mach to year of my car or the year of the engine i get?

2. ill be using my W58 for a wile, but will need a good clutch. will a clutch for the R154 fit on the W58?

3.will i have problems with not knowing where to clips on the new harness go and if they'll work in the clips on the rest of my car? because the harness's are different.

4. The engine wont come with a intercooler so ill be getting a aftermarket one, is there, or what mods will i have to do to my car to make fit the cooler and pipes?

im sure theres more but i wont kill you guys with a bunch of questions, im 19 and doing this all myself and consider myself preety good with cars.
Please dont tell me to search or say your sick of these swap threads, believe me, i know how much we answer these questions but please help a fello Supra lover.
P.S. any other helpful info on the Trubo world, please dont hesitate!!

Thank you guys, and girls! cant wait to show you my build up thread!

1. 86.5-88 and 89-92 are the major revisions. There were other minor revisions but at least the ECU plug will be the same. For the best fit you'll want the same year, but 87 should work just fine as well.

3. If you use the same year harness everything should just plug in perfect.

4. Depends on what IC you get. You may or may not have to make brackets, custom pipes, or possibly even relocate some stock equipment (like PS lines, oil cooler, etc).

OK thanks, so ill get 1988 or 87 ECU and harness for turbo 5spd.

and for the intercooler i was planing on just getting on of the pipe kits and doing my own fitting. and im not going to big with the intercooler so fitment shouldn't be to much of a problem, but i guess my consern was with one of the pipes that goes into the finder, thats the air going into the 3000 pipe right? do i have to cut a hole or can it be routted other wise?

Another thing is i want to use solid motor mounts, can anyone direct me somewere for these or do they need to be custom made?

Thanks again!

there is already a hole in your fender, it just has a little (well kinda big) plastic plug in it. As far as solid mounts, at least get a ride in someones car that has them before you go and get some. I had them and don't recommend them if you like a nice ride and a car that won't rattle itself apart (and that was with a fully balanced engine)

Here is a link to a thread were upgraded clutch's for NAs are discussed. Yes you can use the clutch disk from a r154 and any disk made for a w58 except ones for the mk4s and sc300s because they have a larger input shaft. You can not use the r154 pp's. You can also use an upgraded pp made for any car that has the w58, mk2s to mk4s.

:bigthumb: np, thats what we are here for!

and while im thinking about it, the only kind of car I would get solid mounts for would be a fwd vehicle or a strictly track car. I had them on my eclipse and loved the fact that they damn near completely got rid of my wheel hop and made the car slightly more responsive, but they transmitted a good bit of vibration into the cabin. And when I would turn the AC on it would shake any of the change I had in the dash = very very annoying, and embarrassing when in the company of those who know nothing about cars. Besides, I like reving the motor up and having the car sway from side to side.

I have solid engine mounts, and I love them. They make the inside of the cabin vibrate, but you only notice in the steering wheel and shifter, passengers rarely notice.

They are NOTHING like the solid mounts for a FWD vehicle, my buddy had near solids in his FWD Laser and they shake like the car is going to come apart at idle.

The easiest way to get them for the pre-89 model is to take your existing ones and weld some steel to two sides of them, making them solid.
