This is not a thread to discuss what a surgetank is. If you would like to know then google it.. http://sdsefi.com/techsurge.htm

I want to know how some of you feel about surge tanks. I think that this would be a great option for me because I could:

A)keep the intank walbro
B)leave the fuel lines alone
C)run a high-flow external fuel pump
D)keep the price of lines low (IE running -8 AN to the fuel rail)
E)keep the fuel rail full of fuel at all time (hard cornering)

I think that the surgetank would only be practical if I mounted it close to the fuel rail (as far as keeping line costs down).

The only problems with this setup I can see are:

A) limited space in and around the engine bay for mounting of surgetank.
B) hatch mounting would defeat the purpose of saving $ on lines.

I was thinking I could mount a surgetank right in front of the wheel well, or right between my IC and radiator (where my A/C stuff used to go). Only problem with these setups are the threats of getting in an accident. Would a surgetank (NON pressurized mind you) really cause more fuel to be dumped in cause of a rupture than say a fuel line?

Please give me some input, I really like this idea because I'm cheap and I've seen it used in many high horsepower applications. My car is NOT daily driven. I am NOT stupid. I realize accidents DO happen. Thanks guys :)

i dont see the point of it really unless you are having a fuel delivery issue or if you car sees high sustained g-loads where you could cause a delivery issue. probibly not what you want to hear but unless you NEED it why do it?

I agree I don't need it at all, but there is a simple answer for why I want to do it.

I like to do things differently. I think it's cool to try a different approach to something. For this setup the appeal is leaving all factory fuel lines intact, and not having to drop my gastank again to upgrade my fuel setup.

I know it seems like I'd be "half-assing it" but if you think about it, I really wouldn't be. There would be no need to upgrade the factory lines with a surgetank (it couldn't hurt!) but these lines would no longer see pressure, so there would be pleanty of flow from the single walbro to keep the surgetank filled. From the surgetank I would use a Bosch 044 pump, followed by a highflow fuel filter. I could Tee this to the rail with dual -6AN feeds, run the FPR normally, with it's return going to the surgetank, and another from the surgetank to the gastank return using the factory line. None of the factory lines would see pressure anymore, only flow.

I just really think it would be interesting, and efficient. I like having more options, and exploring them. I just wanted to know if there is anything I have overlooked. I'm still kicking around ideas, and I've settled on everywhere from an A1000, dual walbros and now this.. we'll see what I actually end up doing.

Thanks for posting Joe, I know where you're comming from.

I am going to put one in my prerunner, because it has a wide flat fuel cell, and in certain situations (jumping the truck or hard corners) the pickup would not be submerged in fuel. On the stock Supra gas tank, I don't think that is a problem. If you were worried about it just keep a half tank of gas in it or more.
