Hey guys, just thought I'd ask for your input real quick. I'm having basically my first problem with the Supra in 7 years, aside from the BHG...

It died on me and won't start.

It basically happened within about 10 minutes, the car started feeling sluggish, then stalled when I came to some lights. I managed to get it started again, to have it idling and running like crap.

Drove it home, and now it won't start...

Here's what I know, no codes, AFM is fine, getting spark on all cylinders, fuel pump is working, and there is pressure in the fuel rail, also, the injectors are getting signal (don't know for sure if they're actually working correctly).

Running Lexus AFM, RC 550cc injectors. Car has run perfectly with this setup for 3 years.

Any insight? All fuses are good. Thanks guys.

Try the CPS "wiggle the wires by the green connector" trick. Sounds like what happened to me. It has a hard time starting when it's not quite right, since the signal gets weaker the lower the RPM.

Best would be to crank it, and have a friend mess around with it. Once it starts it will be fine, untill the next re-start.

fuel quality issues?? water in fuel, etc.?? Did you gas up today? check for wiring faults/failures under the hood.
Wiggle some stuff......

I've checked all the connectors I can find. They're all solid, I'll check the CPS one again, but I'm pretty sure there's a good connection, and I'm getting a solid spark from all 3 coil packs.

As far as fuel quality goes, I can't really remember, it happened earlier this week, I've been spending some time troubleshooting it. I don't really know what else it could be.

Exactly what I was thinking. You see I have stored a bike for 10 winters. Each winter I remove all the gas from the tank and the 4 carbs. Jeff, winter where you are seems to have fluctuating temperatures -- the forumula for ongoing condensation. Water is heavier than gas, so it will be at the bottom of the tank.
If the car ran fine before storage, the first thing you should think of is: no mechanical change since, maybe there has been a chemical change (water being introduced in the system). The symtoms you describe also sound like from bad gas too: it ran, but not too good, then stalled.

Well that is a valid guess with some basis anyways.

Hey that idea makes lots of sense cause when I had my 300zx I got a load of bad gas and it started but ran like crap and made it about a block and quit, wouldn't run at all, luckly exxon paid for the dealer to completely sort it

Actually after this winter's storage, the intake manifold gasket and injector rings were replaced because the intake manifold gasket had a crack. (Happened last year).

It's been running fine for months now though, and the gas tank has basically been emptied probably about 3 times.

I thought about it further, I would have filled up gas last Sunday, then the car stopped running on Tuesday... not too far apart I guess...

Drain the tank into a catch container look for water, while the tank is empty would be a great time to drop it and check the pump inlet "sock" and for crap in the tank, also makes it easy to change fuel filter.
I have seen a couple of vehicles shut down by a load of rust/sediment in the pump inlet filter after getting a tank load of crap from the bottom of a gas storage tank(stations should have to run filters on their hoses)

mdr40z ... We should know all about crap in the fuel, I have never seen anyplace that beats arkansas for that occuring, with the possible exception of Louisiana.....

I had the same problem with the tps too...I had to replace it but to start it all I did was opened the throttle and i got it to start.. Guess my cps failed at the lower range...

Cheers,

Just in case you haven't checked this yet - check the alternator. If it dies, the car will run for a while on the battery, until it drains the battery. Sometimes you can even get it restarted again, but only for a very short time until the battery decides it's had enough.

Doesn't sound like it because you have spark, but can't hurt to check.
