since i bought my 89 supra the fumes coming out of the exhaust system were unbearable. I bought it with a 3 inch cat-less exhaust pipe from the turbo straight to the dynomax muffler. So last weekend i bought a magnaflow 54959 universal cat 3" in/out spun to 4" in the middle. The supra sounds alot better (low tone) however i feel its alot more sluggish than before. Will a highflow cat bring back my performance(or close).... or is it all in my head.

im gonna guess most of it is in your head... on my 85 (i know not an mk3) i replaced an old worn cat with a 3 inch straight through glasspack and didnt notice much of a performance difference.
but i guess with a turbo motor it could be different....
ill probably run catless when i finish my 2.8 turbo 5mge

Might try the turbo section for your car...

Anyway, I run catless, and have no problems at all with fumes. I would suggest checking for codes, maybe a tune-up, and some diagnostic work to see why you're running rich.
