I was driving the other day and I noticed that my temperature gauge was starting to go up. It nearly hit the red. So I pulled over to see what was wrong and everything seemed to be fine. Now when I do some spirited driving, it seems like my antifreeze light always seems to come on. When i check the reservoir after, there's no more antifreeze. I always check it before I go out and drive to see if it's full. Do you guys think i blew my head gasket when it overheated? Thanks

Not necessarily. Check your fans. See if they're working properly. If you have a mechanical fan check if the fan clutch is still good. If your fans are working properly then do a Water Pressure test while the car is off to see if there is a hose leaking somewhere or then you might have bhg. good luck.

Rad caps go bad too, and leak in your rad.

Unfortunately though, I suspect the worst. Any white smoke from the exhaust that you notice? Does you exhaust smell like coolant? Check you res and see if it has gunky brown residue in it. If so it make be oil in you coolant. Also check you oil cap for milky white substance, could indicate coolant in your oil. Smell you oil, smell your coolant.

You can also get a BHG test kit at most autoparts stores for around 12 bucks that you test your coolant with on the car. It changes color to indicate exhaust gases in you coolant and let you know. It's going somewhere somehow, just gotta find where.

The light is there to tell you that there is no coolant in the over flow.

Pressure test the cooling system and check for leaks.

Any leak including a bhg will leak faster with faster driving so to say. constant higher rpms as the water pump is spinning faster.
