I am looking for some advice from all you great supra owners. I sold my last supra because I need the money (bad idea). I am now once again looking to buy another 89+ turbo supra. In the past I have had REALLY bad luck with the 7M engines. I went thou 6, YES 6 engine swaps with the 7m. Bad lower bearings, cracked piston, broken connecting rod, cracked block, oil pump failure, you name it I’ve broke it on the 7m. So I don’t like the 7M engines that much.

I am wondering if I should go with a 1jz swap for around $2500 or (witch I don’t like because of my past with 7m’s) spend that $2500 on upgrading the 7M. Like pistons, connecting rods, bearings, have shop blueprint engine, what ever could get done with 2500 bucks. I am looking for reliable power to have fun with again. Let me know what you did and what it cost.

welcome to supramania, 92nsx! if your budget is only $2500.00; go built 7m. good luck!

edit: yeah. i've been up since 3am enduring a nice day at MEPS, so after reading what i wrote and what Adjuster wrote it made me realize that i'm very tired and i didn't mean to say go with a "built" motor per se, but going with a stock rebuild and a mhg would be about that price.

nice run-on sentence, eh? lol. i'm tired. :aigo:

2500 spent right, and with you doing much of the work, could get you forged pistons, and a rebuild using stock rods with ARP hardware.

Would be a good base for power. (But your barely going to get there for 2500.00, and your not going to have any mods other than a MHG, Forged pistons, ARP head studs and rod bolts. The valves and head would be stock. (Or pretty much stock.)

None of your fucking business
Sounds like me.... I went through 3 JDM engines in 3 months, thank god for warrentys. That was 5 years ago and I too was stupid and sold my car
This time I'm going to do it right (cuz I can $$) and totally rebuild it, bottom end and MHG and maybe a big turbo :evil2: Once its built I will feel pretty comfortable, but I will always remember how much I hated the 7m for those 4 months... I would stick with a rebuilt 7m over a 1jz. The 1jz is better in stock form, but It'll be used for $2500 and you could rebuild the 7m for that and know exactly what you have. 7m will be easier come emissions and if god forbid you ever sell your car. And welcome to supramania.
