I found a supra 1jz w/ 5 speed transmission, harness and ecu for a decent price and i had some questions about the swap. Ive had my mind set on a 2jz swap since i got my supra but money wise it seems going 1j would be alot cheaper, and me being a 17 year old i dont have much of it. I know the pre 89 brackets are required. I was wondering mostly about wiring, since its out of a jza70 would the body plugs match up? Im guessing since the crossmember has to be changed in a 2j swap it would in a 1j also? I have never even thought to research the 1jz swap because i was so set on the 2j, so please be easy lol

If it has a 1j swap then the cross member has already been changed to the 89+ style, also you could always go 1.5jz or put a 2j right in using the same mounts and transmission although the wiring might be a bitch. Finally if you wnt to buy the car with the swap already done you almost have to go with a 1jz as 2jz swaps are much less common than 1jz swaps in MK3's.

EDIT, I thought you were talking about a car that was already swapped, the 1jz swap would be easier to wire up and most 2j swaps come with an auto trans and a front sump oil pan so to get a 5sp trans, new flywheel, clutch, bell housing, and oil pans the cost of the 2j swap really adds up and could easilly end up being twice the price.

Just get the BIC engine mount brackets for the 1JZ
The 1JZ haves plenty of power and you do not need to extend the jza70 harness at the minimum you will have to make 13 wires splices at the body connector depending on pps abs anti theft oil sensing setup hydrofan AC system delete? etc just make a mini jumper harness to go between the 2 sets of body connectors.

run the two thick alternator wires and use the connector that comes with the jza70 fuse block. you have to only splice two wires for the alternator this way.
