Summer Maintenance. What to do?

Hey guys,

It's been nearly two years since I started up my Supra. I jumped the Supra today. It started up almost instantly. I have had great luck with my car in this respect. The birdcage was lit up and the fuel indicator was on. I let it run for a couple minutes, removed the jumpers and jumped in the car. I was going to drive it to the gas station just down the street, but when I put it in reverse and lightly touched the gas, the car died. I figure it just needs to run longer with some fresh gas.

I have the following items for summer maintenance.

- 4 Quarts Amsoil 10w30
- 6 Quarts Amsoil Tranny Fluid
- Prestone Coolant
- 20 Litres of 94 Octane

It has been a long time since I've done anything with this Supra, so I am very rusty. I know the tires need some air, but do I need to rotate the tires?

What do you guys recommend I do before I take any chances and put this puppy back on the road?

Thanks a bunch guys.

This is probably nit picking but you only need 3.2 qts of tranny fluid.
The motor takes 5 qts, but should always be 1 qt overfull, so 6 qts is needed.
I would definitely drain the fuel (there is a plug in the bottom of the fuel tank) and replace the filter.
While your at it change the rear end, gear lube also.

Why hasn't it been driven in so long?

It hasn't been driven in a while due to insurance reasons. I also need a new sticker from the DMV. I have been so busy the past couple years I just didn't have the time. I was driving another car for a while, but now is this time to take the beast out.

Looks like I need to buy two more quarts of oil.

I just realized that I have two Amsoil Fuel Filters. I have no hands on experience with this car, other than changing the coolant or fuel, so I will probably take it to a Jiffy Lube or something to have the Tranny Fluid and gear lube done. Unless it is easier than I think. Is it?

All you need is a 24mm socket, and a way to pump the gear lube up out of the bottle into whatever you are filling.
The trans can be filled through the shifter hole (not how it was designed, but it works), but that doesent help with the rear end, and pumps can be had for cheap, so it is a worthy investment.

Jiffy lube FTL. Might as well have your little sister change the oil, chances are they have the same knowledge base. Oil selection and weight makes the difference.

For reference:
Rear end takes 80w90 and possibly LSD additive (if you have LSD)
transmission takes 75w90

Well, I would consider doing it myself. Are there any walkthroughs online that I could use to supplement my already lacking knowledge?

I just checked my coolant and both the overflow and radiator were empty. I have a leak somewhere. I just filled the radiator up and ran out of mix. I will go tomorrow to buy more to fill the overflow up.

I checked the oil three times and it is still full from two years ago. Pretty brown. Could use a change out. I know where the oil drain is, so that is not an issue. Will do that tomorrow.

I noticed that there is some burnt residue on the turbo heatshield that looks like it is coming from the coupler between the 3000 pipe and the HKS BOV pipe. I will snap a picture tomorrow. What could it be?

What is the cap that reads "Turn Clockwise" beside the overflow tank?

Thanks

cap next to the overflow is to turn your headlights up if the motors stop functioning(which they rarely do).

Id also change the spark plugs and wires, its not that hard and with a standard small set of tools you can take care of it, if you need a write up on that i can give you a step by step procedure for taking them off and gapping and putting new ones in.

As for the radiator, check the upper and lower hoses to see if theres any leaks there, easiest way is to go under the car look for a leak and follow it up.

As for the coupler just check to see if the clamps are loose, the turbo gets very very hot and things like the heat shield take the burden of that just keep an eye out for anything out of the ordinary.

and an air filter might be a good idea

I currently have NGK Blue Plug Wires. Will I have to replace them? There is less than 10,000km on them.

I have no idea how to change the plugs. A step by step would be too grateful. I am very surprised there aren't a hundred of these online already.

My only major issue is that I do not have access to a jack as it is 200km away. I will do my best to check tomorrow after work.

What would the residue on the heatshield be? I will take that apart tomorrow and rework it.

I also have an Apexi air filter that came with the car when I bought it. I would say it is in decent condition. Still usable? I will snap a whole bunch of pics tomorrow after work and provide a picture with every question I have.

You know, they made some money for us. One customer came in after going to either them or grease monkey. It has been that long I don't remember. They broke the case by overtightening the drain plug. Impact on an aluminum transfer case? I have no idea. But thank$.

Is there a walkthrough on adding gear oil through the shifter hole? I can't seem to find it when I search.

Any other feedback? What else should I do before I start er up?

Pull the shifter off, should be held on by 4 bolts, and pour through the hole, be very very very careful not to spill or else it will stink when the tranny gets hot, it holds 3.2 qts, fill it up and put the shifter back on. Done

get some new gas in there and if you found the coolant leak and fixed it fire her and see if she runs. Air filter doesnt need to be replaced but wouldnt hurt to blow it out due to it sitting for so long.

the drain plug should be on the bottom drivers side or in the middle of the tranny on the drivers side of the tunnel if i remember correctly, pull it let it drain, and since its gear oil it will never stop lol so once the flow gets very very small go ahead and throw the plug back in. Make sure you clean the plug off and check for metal on the end.

Alright. That doesn't sound too bad at all.

I currently have the following gear oil. Amsoil Severe Gear SAE 75W-90 Synthetic Extreme Pressure Lubricant.

I have no idea if it's the right one. It's been sitting in a cool, dark place for over a year. Does this stuff go bad? I don't remember buying this stuff, so any opinions would be appreciated. I went to Canadian Tire to see if they had the Redline MT-90, but not luck.
